Simulate Transactions

Statement of Requirement

Producers SHOULD simulate transactions against current chain state before finalization and SHOULD expose simulation results to the Consumer.

See it in the specification

Applicability

Purpose

Provide information on the real effects of a transaction before it is signed and deployed

Audit Procedure

Verify that the Producer exposes the results of simulating a proposed transaction's outcome onchain without deploying it.

See also Verify Transaction Sets

Success Criteria

The Producer exposes the changes in current chain state that a transaction would produce, without deploying the transaction onchain.

Best Practice

The Producer provides an isolated model of the chain state, to which it can apply transactions, and for which it offers explorer and monitoring tools.

Failure Criteria

There is no mechanism to expose the outcome of a transaction without deploying the transaction

Justifiable Exceptions

This is a useful feature. However, its absence is justifiable on the grounds of keeping code or interfaces simple. Justification for not meeting this requirement does not need to be explicit.
